Bewegen Technologies is proud to announce that the company has launched an innovative new bike share program across the beautiful Pioneer Valley region. Bewegen will be working with The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission to implement a regional bike share system servicing the communities of Northampton, Holyoke, South Hadley, Springfield and Amherst. The system will also provide a local transportation option for UMass Amherst students and staff.
To meet Pioneer Valley’s unique challenges, the system will be designed to promote short bike trips within core communities, where clusters of large employers, colleges, shopping, tourist destinations and residents can readily be connected. The system, entitled ValleyBike, will be a truly pioneering system, including a 100% fleet of Pedelec (electric-assist) bicycles to help riders glide uphill with ease.
The initial 29 bike stations will provide 290 electric-assist bikes for residents and tourists to explore the region, with planned expansion to 500 bikes and 50 stations. System sponsors supporting the bike share system include Holyoke Community College, Springfield Technical Community College, Baystate Health, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Dowd Agencies, E Ink, Florence Bank, Holyoke Medical Center, Mercy Medical Center & Affiliates, Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, New England Treatment Access (NETA), Smith College, Springfield Armory and MGM Springfield.
Bewegen is proud to be working to increase access to active mobility options, and look forward to future opportunities to grow this regional bike share program. Further information can be found at http://valleybike.org/.
